Before pairing
How are the phones connected?
Pairing needs internet for a few seconds. After that, timing runs phone-to-phone.

    Settings

    Field connection

Coach’s Hotspot is selected for paired timing at the field.

    Guide

Mounting, pairing, camera placement, workouts, and field troubleshooting.

    Recovered from damaged local data

Your damaged store was preserved before safe defaults loaded. Download it for support, then continue using the app.

    Data & backups

Backup includes every athlete, run, workout, and setting. Import creates a local restore point first.

    Field diagnostics

Technical camera, effective threshold, clock-sync, and connection evidence. Athlete names are excluded. Sending goes straight to the Velocity Sprint team.

    Feedback

Tell us what to build next, or what went wrong. A problem report attaches the same technical evidence as diagnostics — never athlete names. Leave your email in the message if you want a reply.

    Privacy & terms

Athlete names and times stay on this phone; your account profile and subscription status are stored on our servers. Camera frames never leave the device.

    Guide

    1 · What you need
    • Two phones: one at the start line, one at the finish line. (One phone works too: see Solo gate.)
    • Something to hold each phone still. Tripods are preferred but not required: a cone, a bag, or a fence works. A moving phone false-triggers.
    • Internet for a few seconds while pairing. After that, timing runs phone-to-phone.
Install it like an app: in Safari tap Share → Add to Home Screen. You get a real Velocity Sprint icon, full screen, and it opens even with no signal once it's been loaded before.
Coach’s Hotspot is the default: turn on Personal Hotspot on the start phone, join that hotspot from the finish phone, then pair as normal. Fields with good WiFi can switch to Same WiFi in Settings.
    2 · Mount the gates
    1. Stand each phone upright at the line, rear camera facing across the running lane, like an invisible tripwire.
    2. Aim the vertical beam strip in the camera view at the spot the runner crosses, about hip height.
    3. Keep the background behind the beam plain and still: no traffic, flags, or teammates walking through.
    4. Phones stay plugged in or well charged; screen stays on while timing.
    3 · Pair the phones
    1. Start phone: tap Start gate. A 6-digit code appears.
    2. Finish phone: point the Camera app at the code and tap the link — or tap Finish gate, type the code, tap Connect.
    3. Leave Gate position blank on the finish phone. It IS the finish line.
    4. Clocks sync automatically; the sync margin shows under setup.
Extra phones = split gates. Pair them the same way but enter their distance from the start (example: 10 for a 10-yard split). Up to 6 gates. The start phone's setup panel draws the track with every gate's position and the spacing between them, so you can check the layout at a glance.
    4 · Run a rep
    1. On the start phone pick the Athlete, and set Distance under the gear.
    2. Tap ARM GATES. Hold everything still ~1 second while the gates settle.
    3. The button won't arm until every gate is synced, camera-ready, and confirmed. The status line tells you what it's waiting for.
    4. When the status shows Armed — runner may go: run. Start trip starts the clock, finish trip stops it.
    5. The official time lands on every phone. Continue readies the next rep.
A rep aborts itself if a gate drops, the app is backgrounded, or the camera stalls. A broken rep is thrown away, never guessed.
5 · Solo gate (one phone)
One phone is both gates. Arm it, trip the beam to start, trip it again to stop. There is a 1.5 s dead zone after the start so you can't stop it instantly.
Suicides (solo): choose Suicides under Drill, or Format → Suicides, then set your legs (the Bball button loads the classic FT → half → far FT → full court), stand the phone at the baseline, arm, run. Every time you return to the baseline the beam records the split; the final return stops the clock — per-leg times and speeds land on the result. Works for any sport: type your own leg distances.
Solo also unlocks the 5-10-5 shuttle: three crossings of the same line (start, turn, finish). The turn split is saved with the rep. Sensitivity matters double here — a too-sensitive gate goes blind after the first crossing and misses the turn and finish. Let the arming check pick your ceiling.
    6 · Formats & workouts
    • Free run: one rep at a time.
    • Set: N reps with a rest countdown; gates re-arm themselves with a go-beep. Set summary shows best / average / drop-off.
    • Combine: needs 2+ athletes. The roster rotates automatically each rep; the queue under the timer shows who's up and everyone's rest.
    • Flying: running start. Times go in a separate PR bucket so they never mix with standing starts.
    • Goal time: set a target; every result shows green/red against it.
    • Coach mode: adds a START NOW button (whistle starts) and per-rep notes.
    • Drill dropdown: the basics at your set distance, every one-phone drill, and links to more. Picking a drill loads its distance, format, reps, rest and cue in one tap.
    • Workouts button: opens the drill library with a setup diagram and instructions for every drill; Load in timer brings it straight back into your session. Ready-made workouts by sport (Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, Football, Lacrosse, Misc) live under Drill → Workouts by sport.
    • My Workouts: Drill → My workouts. Build your own there. Stack blocks (4×10yd on 60s, then 2×40yd on 2min), name it, save it. The app walks the blocks, counts down rest, and pauses with a "move the finish gate" message whenever the next block runs a different distance. Squad On rotates the roster through every rep. A summary shows per-block best/avg when the last rep lands. Want to tweak a sport preset? Tap ✎ on it — it copies into My Workouts as an editable draft.
    7 · Sensitivity
The thin bar on the right of the camera shows how much the beam is being disturbed. Tune with the Sensitivity slider under the gear:
    • Auto (default): the gate measures the scene every time you arm and picks its own sensitivity — per phone, per arm. Leave it on unless you have a reason not to.
    • Manual mode: missing runners? Slide right (more sensitive).
    • False triggers from shadows, wind, or grass? Slide left.
    • Good setup: the bar barely moves when quiet, spikes hard when someone crosses.
    • If arming stops with "Too sensitive for this scene", the app measured the background noise and your slider is inside it — every rep would false-start. Follow the number it suggests, or steady the phone / find a calmer background.
    8 · Results, PRs & sharing
    • Every rep is saved to the selected athlete at the current distance. Fastest = PR, tracked per athlete per distance.
    • Bad rep (dog ran through the beam)? Tap on it in Session: voided reps are struck out and excluded from PRs, stats, and leaderboards. restores.
    • Wrong athlete, or an unassigned rep? Tap on the rep in Session to assign any athlete and type a note. The measured time itself can never be edited.
    • Session tab: today's reps, best/avg, leaderboard. Export CSV emails the session to a spreadsheet.
    • Analytics tab: PR history, consistency, fatigue alert, daily range, training volume. Per athlete, per event.
    • Share on the result overlay makes a scorecard image for the team chat.
    9 · Backup
Settings tab → Export backup saves everything (athletes, runs, settings) as one file. Import backup replaces this phone's data with a backup. A restore point is kept first, and Restore previous undoes it. Data lives only on this phone; back up before switching phones.
Send diagnostics to support (Settings tab) emails a technical session report, or export it as a file — camera frame timing, clock-sync quality, and connection events. Export it from every phone after an accuracy test session; it contains no athlete names.
10 · Fixes for common problems
    • Won’t pair: both phones need internet for pairing. Read the message under Connect: it tells you whether no start phone was found for that code, or the pairing service is blocked (VPN, Private Relay, content blocker). Fix that, go Back and retry.
    • Camera blocked: allow camera access in the browser prompt (or the browser's site settings), then reload.
    • Connection lost mid-session: the finish phone reconnects by itself for about a minute; clocks re-sync automatically. If it gives up, reload both phones and re-pair.
    • Phantom triggers at the start: the runner should stand outside the beam until armed, or use a Flying start.
    • Times look wrong: almost always a wrong Distance setting. The mph chip warns when a result is implausible.
    • Camera freezes or goes black: the app now notices within seconds, shows "restarting camera…", and recovers on its own. To stop it happening: turn OFF Low Power Mode on gate phones (it throttles the camera hard), keep phones out of direct sun (heat does the same), and close any other app that uses the camera.
    • Long sessions in the heat: shade the gate phones between sets. A hot phone drops camera frames first and the timing quality goes with it.
    • Still stuck, or want something built? Settings tab → Report a problem or Request a feature. A problem report sends the technical evidence with it, so send it from the phone that misbehaved.
Field accuracy validation is in progress; use measured diagnostics when evaluating a setup.
